I can't tell you how many questions I got about why I was doing it, what exactly I wasn't doing, and what it is like. Honestly, it is very much like all of those times I went to the beach with my family for a week or out on the House Boat. It was just a simple 2 weeks without facebook, fun emailing, television, movies, and no blogging. During these few days without the crippling technology I use on a regular basis, I learned one very important thing

Before this media fast, I knew that words had power. However, it wasn't until I started watching movies and television again that I realized just how much I am affected by the messages they convey. Last night as I watched Invictus (yep the Rugby movie) I was struck by the power with which Nelson Mandela spoke. My new goal is to read his biography. :) While fasting, I read...a lot! It always amazes me how much I miss reading for fun when I haven't for a long time. I really love it. I love getting lost in another world and discovering, with the characters, how to get around. There is really nothing that a fantastic read cannot cure.
I also read a good chunk of scripture. There is power to be found and realized in the word of God. The truth is brought to light as I read and it resonates with something deep inside me. My soul hungers for the knowledge and direction by the Holy Spirit which is increased 10 fold as I read my scriptures on a daily basis and study the principles and doctrines taught.
This media fast has done wonders for me. I feel refreshed, renewed, and ready to take on the battle front of mixed messages from the media.
And as always, I am still learning,
Patience
